So at one point the Roman style of statue making was to just slap a customized head onto a pre-made idealized body, which makes for some pretty jarring results for Vespasian (he was something like 65 years old when this was made)

I feel like this bust of Nero kind of embodies my physical, mental, and emotional state for the past few weeks. Just generally fat/bloated, with an expression in the space between “nobly contemplating the profound”, “batshit crazy”, and “mentally vacant”

The Ache of Marriage

The ache of marriage:

thigh and tongue, beloved,
are heavy with it,
it throbs in the teeth

We look for communion
and are turned away, beloved,
each and each

It is leviathan and we
in its belly
looking for joy, some joy
not to be known outside it

two by two in the ark of
the ache of it.
